Thanks folks.
I had a take off pair of Tally lightweights taken of another model 70 and and 1990s 3-9 leupold (black ring economy model) I experimented with placement. The smith had lapped this set and I found out reusing lapped Talley lightweights is a bad idea if you like the black finish on you scope. Otherwise the Talley LW have been good to me.
I have a Z3 on another model 70 LA so I know that will fit but don't know if I would trust it on a 300. I think the Z5s and Z6s have a different erector but I may be mistaken. The 4-12 might be a good scope for this gun. The meoptas are heavier but if they are anything like their spotters should be great glass and tough. Seem like the Leupold V3 3.5-10 is popular too.
A rail would make it easier to swap scopes if a guy needed to but don't look as stylish. Maybe should try one.
Rancid: I torque everything but this is my first belted magnum. I bought this 300 used as a project gun and figure the recoil might help keep my brain from hardening. Expecting tiny groups at long distances. If the barrel won't do it it will get sold or rebarreled to a 338 or something more exotic.
