I have hunted the bush in AK a couple of times and shots can be anywhere from a few feet to 300 yds.  To me, the perfect AK bush scope would be something in the 1.5-6 or even better the 1.5-8.

Sort of an interesting story along these lines.  I went moose hunting in the bush of AK last month.  The friend that I went with has a house that butts right up against some flats around the Matanuska river.  We went hunting out on the flats the morning before I was to leave.  We stalked a moose most of the morning but was never able to get a shot.  On the way out we found very fresh brown bear tracks.  Based on the spread of the front and back paws, it was about 8 feet long.  The tracks were so fresh, we were not sure whether he was stalking us or the moose we were after.  Anyhow, a week after I got home, I got a text message from my friend telling me that his neighbor killed the bear and it was an 8 footer.  What brings this story into perspective of this conversation is that the bear popped out of the brush at 20 feet.  The neighbor  would have been a dead man except the bear did some posturing in that it gave the neighbor a shot at the vitals.  Not sure why brown bears do it but sometimes they turn sideways to you before they attack to give you a sense of how big they are.  Thats the theory at least of why they do it.  The bear then turned toward him and he put one in the chest and it dropped.  The moral of the story is that had the neighbor had the vortex 6-24x50 scope on his rifle, he would most likely not be alive today.  Food for thought. Pun intended.
