Everybody places a different value on improved performance, even though there are definite diminishing returns on those improvements as you climb the price scale. The same law of diminishing returns applies to many things in life.

Some products that promise improved performance actually deliver and some don't. Whether a person is able to recognize those that do deliver or not depends on the person and their preferences and priorities.
That doesn't mean the high end stuff is all "hype.;" it just means that value is a personal, variable concept. You just don't place as much value on the diminishing returns as others do. I don't see the value in putting $5000 in engine upgrades and mods to gain an additional 50 hp in my truck, but someone else might, and I wouldn't consider them "buying into hype." It's all about priorities and preferences. There's nothing at all wrong with deciding higher priced optics don't provide enough benefit for you to justify the price. We all see things differently, literally and figuratively.
