Subject: tips for focusing reticle?

That was a good read, but did not find any new tips. I heard the reticle is set for 20/20 vision when it is all the way in and backing it out is if you have worse eyesight. Right now I have the lock ring away from the magnification ring as little as possible so it does not hit it and the reticle ring bumped against it. The reticle looks clear and focused - good enough i suppose. what bothers me is it always was in focus no matter where i set it. this makes me think i am screwing something up but just don't know it yet.
I've been doing this against a cloudy white sky, 9x magnification
