What 3_tens said is correct.
Look away at some distant object and let your eyes relax.
Then look through the scope at the sky and see if the reticle looks sharp IMMEDIATELY. Do not let your eyes adjust and refocus.
If the reticle is not sharp, adjust the eyepiece a little and repeat.
