You're on the right track with that Vortex, but you may have a hard time finding one due to limited availability. It'd need a thicker or illuminated reticle for low light woods duty. The Weaver Classic Extreme is similar and you can order one for really cheap these days if you google around, but you probably won't find one in a display case to look at.
The Leupold VX-3 and VX-R have glass plenty good enough for what you would do. The 2.5-8x and 2-7x options already mentioned would be great with the lit or thick reticles.
You might want to investigate the trigger on that rifle and maybe what kind of ammo you'll need for short range shots with a 270 WSM before you get too far into this. Congratulations on that win, by the way. Browning makes great rifles and the 270 WSM may be the best all-around cartridge if properly utilized.
